A Procedure For Wave Loads Assessment Of Fast Trimaran Ships.
At this time a great experience about trimaran structure
scantling does not still exist owing to the very poor number
of units built all over the world.Existing HSC rules can be
considered more than a simple help for the designer but,in
this case, they does not make reference specifically to
trimarans. In the context of a concept design of a trimaran
fast ferry developed at the University of Genova by
DINAV,a procedure for structure scantling has been
developed starting from a preliminary approach based on
HSC rules,up to the determination of global design loads
by a long term analysis. In this paper the latter part is
described together with some comparisons with previous
finite element calculations.
Multihull,structures,high-speed,design,FEM,
seakeeping.
The Mediterranean Sea is one of the most interesting area
in the world for shipping activities.A very large number of
sea routes exists for small, medium and large merchant
ships for any kind of traffic, tramps or liners.Passenger
vessels, cruise ships and ferries connect the coast to islands
where a very big amount of tourist traffic takes place every
year, once just in the summer period, now spread more
uniformly all over the year.It is out of doubt that a great
part of the passenger traffic for tourist passages is that from
Italian coasts.Routes from Genova to Sardinia and Sicily,
from Naples to all Tirrenic islands, from Venice,Ancona
and Brindisi to Greece carry every year millions of
passengers and cars all around the Mediterranean Sea,
giving place to a very large business. The actual trend is to
manage this traffic in a more rational way with a big effort
towards the development of a new, proper fleet assuring
from one side a high efficiency and good gains for the
owners together with a reasonable economy for passengers
and, from the other side,a total safety of crew and
passengers and, over all,a very low environment impact.
