INTRODUCTION
As delegates of the United Nations Environmental
Programme (UNEP),you have the opportunity to discuss
two of the most crucial environmental issues in today’s
world.Deserti!cation is an issue that has not been on the
global stage until the past few decades."e Sahara in Africa,
the Gobi in Asia,and the Registan in the Middle East are
all spreading and consequently decreasing the amount
of livable and arable land.Caused by a combination of
man-made issues such as poor techniques in usage of
farmland,overgrazing,and deforestation,the spread of
deserts not only reduces biodiversity,but also hurts the
agricultural productivity and living space in all countries
involved.As populations in developing nations continue
to grow quickly,the reduction of living space and arable
land places a heavy burden on economic growth.Global
action must be undertaken in order to prevent a more
severe environmental,social,and economic consequence.
